Thank you for the last comments my friends, unfortunately I am not able to write any comments in my own blogg (again). I don't have many news but I can tell you that there came a new horse into Baga's herd on Friday and she has been kicked badly. Baga is not really injured but has some contusions on her chest now. It was very hard to see it because she nearly felt down after the kick and came to me immediately...on three legs :o((( She was trembling all-over and not using her left front-leg. But after some minutes the shock was over and she started to eat with the other horses. I have not seen any more fight after this and I don't know who is the new boss of the herd. We will see in some days... Here you can see one picture of Friday. Unfortunately I can not upload more pictures because this blogg is a bad blogg. Can anybody please lend me a kennitala that I can try blog.is? *grrrrrr*

Today I was sitting on Baga again after many many months. You remember that I am at the moment only working from the ground because I think this main work is very important for us both. But I was so curious and felt good so I jumped on her after the ground-work today and was riding her a little bit - only with halter and rope. It was great to see how good it worked!!!

World Championships for Icelandic Horses

In the night of Thursday to Friday we will start our tour to Holland. I got accreditated and Jens has tickets in the Iceland-block :o))) I am very excited and hope that I will find the time at HM to upload the newest pictures and news into my blogg. Are there any favourite horses which you wanted to get pictures of, my friends? I am spennt to see Dalvar frá Auðsholtshjáleigu again and one horse is competing for Holland which is named Roði frá Lágafelli. He is related to Baga and I want to show her pictures of him later ;-)

Sorry for the long break but like everytime I didn’t found enough time to blogg. There is a lot of work to do now and I try to spend every free minute with Baga. Unfortunately we didn’t worked much together the last weeks but we managed to walk a little through the village and country from time to time.
Now the weather is rather boring since about two weeks and it’s hard to take pictures outside. Further Baga always tries to crawl into my lense what makes it more and more difficult to take pictures of her ;-)
One week after my last blogg – as the weather still was fine – I took some pictures of an icelandic horse. It was a nice mare named Síða and I got some very nice shots. After this I visited my parents and spent some nice time with them.
The next two weekends I was rather lazy: only somtimes working on the computer, doing some housework and sleeping on the sofa because I am often very tired from work. From now until end of September I will only work and never have any free minute for me. I hope I’ll find enough time for Baga and me during the weekends.
At the moment I am trying to get accredited for the world championships in Holland but I don’t think that I will manage this.
Today I had planned to take pictures at a tournament but the weather is so variable that I better stay at home. Maybe it looks better tommorrow. But the weather is ok to visit Baga and to clean out the horse-paddock so I did this some hours ago. I also tried to put her the eksem-coat on but I was rather unhappy with it. Not with Baga! She was brilliant! First I was thinking about putting her the halter on but then I decided to try it free on the paddock – and it worked. It was no problem to put the coat over her head (it is like if you put yourself a sweater on) and she stood still until I had found out how to turn it right. But the coat is rather big in my opinion. I’m afraid that she could hurt herself if she is lying on the ground and standing up again or wallowing herself. Further I first had scruple that maybe Íman could try to “undress” Baga because he is playing with everything on the paddock and is biting in everything what is lying in the paddock but I don’t needed to have this scruple because Baga immediately tried to undress herself *argh*. I think she don’t like her coat ;-) Stupidly it could help her in bad insect-times because the insects can not bite her if she is wearing the coat. Now I am thinking about a solution.
After the “fitting” I cleaned the paddock and later I wanted to take some pictures but then Peter arrived and I helped him a little bit in the stable. After it he was working on the fence and I was running over the paddock trying to get some nice pictures. Luckily Baga was so fascinated about Peters work that she was not crawling into my lense ;-)

Working on the ground

Today I took Baga and went to the roundpen again to try to speak in horse-language with her. It worked fine and much better than the first time. After I went to her and told her that she was a very good girl, she followed me immediately! I was very happy about this and am getting more and more brave every day ;-) Peter also worked a little bit with Baga so I could took some pictures of her.

After working with Baga I got one of the Arabian horses "Íman" - the gelding - and should do the same with him because I have a little respect/fear about him and so the normal handling is always difficult for me (cleaning Baga on the paddock in peace, leading Baga out of the paddock without the rest of the horses and so on) because he is always everywhere and not moving any meter if I want to send him away.

So I went with a bad feeling into the roundpen and tried the same like I did with Baga but it was not so easy like with Baga ;-) He immediately started in high gallop/stökk and was running and running and "monta sig" (I can not say this in english) and I was really confused about what to do now. But Peter helped me and told me what to do and suddenly it worked! I did faults like everytime but I noticed that he is also only a horse which is watching me precise and tries to read out of me what to do next. As I stopped - because everything was ok and I always want to end with a good result - I went to him, klappaði hann and suddenly he followed me like Baga did it before. Vááááá, what a great feeling :o))))
Further I worked with him on going backwards because often my problem is, that he is not going backwards if I want this! So I stood in front of him and if he came to near I waved with my arms and jumped up and down (luckily the myndavél was far away) and ... nothing happened. He always only raised his head higher and higher and I stood under him only seing the backside of his head ... the nose was far far away.... and I was going on with jumping and waving my arms like an insane. But anytime luckily he went away backwards - of course only because I went on his nerves :o))) But I was the winner!

Yesterday I got my camera back again!!! I tested her immediately and took one picture on our balcony of the Iceland Poppy (Islandmohn) which is growing there ;-) I hope that I can take some pictures of Baga today because I will show my neighbour Jenny how to handle Baga. Jens and me will be at the Baltic Sea from tommorrow until Thursday and I am rather nervous to leave Baga alone soooo long ;-) But Jenny is a fine girl and also owned horses before so she knows what to do and will always keep me informed. Jens and me will celebrate a little bit because we became engaged 8 years before (on 30.05.) at the same place where we will be on Wednesday. Further we both need to realax a little bit because we are/were hard working and it's better to have some time without telephone and computer. Only reading books, looking TV, eating and walking at the beach!
But I hope I will find many emails of you, my friends, in my mailbox if I arrive at home on Thursday ;-)

Two weeks has passed and now I have to inform you short how it works with Baga in her new home. I think Baga is feeling fine and she managed to be the boss of the herd now. She is still with some fighting-wounds but nothing dangerous. Sometimes the horses are standing very peaceful together but it's possible that suddenly one of the horses starts a new attack. But Baga is not impressed about something like that and is only showing her ass and then everything is finished. Only sometimes if she is in the right mood she wants a revenge and then she is hunting the other horses over the paddock ;-) Nevertheless Baga always can sleep in peace - also lying on the ground. Then the arabian horses are taking care about her. Although Baga is very dominant with the horses I don't have big problems to work or walk with her. One day she was in fear because of a small creek (nothing to speak of) but I could manage that she was not running away and I got her back to her paddock without accidents ;-)

Yesterday we learned something about groundwork and it worked very fine. Now I am very excited about the next lesson.

Unfortunately my camera is still in repair but now I got the quotation and gave the order for the repair. I hope that I will get my camera soon back and that she will work fine for a long time!!! So today I tried to take some pictures of Baga with my mobile phone (they are black and white because the colours were so strange) but everybody who knows Baga (or everybody who knows curious icelandic horses) will understand that this wasn't easy! Her nose was everywhere ;-)

Home Sweet Home

Today we went to Handeloh to get Baga and to bring her home to me. I was very nervous because Baga never liked to go into a horse-trailer and I was not sure how calm she would be during the two hours drive. But everything worked fine!!!
Baga didn't made any trouble because of the trailer - she only was thinking and sniffing a little bit and then she followed me into it!!! She also was very calm during the drive. She was so silent as if she wasn't on the trailer ;-)
As we arrived home on the Fire Lake Ranch, Baga first got the possibility to check the district. She seemed not to be nervous or similar and started to eat grass immediately! So bit by bit we gave the two mares on the same paddock. Nothing happened. The mares looked at each other and went on eating ;-) Some time ago we decided to put the gelding also on the same paddock because everything was very peaceful - but not longer! He attacked Baga immediately and they fighted together a short time. Then he went away to his mares and also started to eat grass. But the discussion was not over! He came again and again but Baga didn't left her position. If he came, she immediately showed him her ass and moved it ;-) Then he went away from her more often and the time between the attacks became longer.

Baga has a little bite-wound now on her throat but it's nothing bad and the gelding has small wounds on his front-legs. Both horses got an ointment (ísl. = smyrsl) on their wounds and the rest of the time was it nearly peaceful. All 4 horses will stay on this paddock this night and tommorrow Baga and one mare will stay there and the two other horses will go to another paddock with more grass.
I also cleaned Baga a little bit and got much of her winter-coat out of her. Then she got some body lotion on her neck (where the skin is hard and dry) and I plied her with "insect spray". She didn't liked it very much but she was not running away (or I should say she didn't moved very fast so that I could follow her with the spray) but I was a little bit unhappy about the spray and need to find out in the next days how to work with it better.
The owner of the stable/ranch has free time tommorrow and he will be with the horses nearly the whole day. Unfortunately I have to work and to sort out some things like bringing my camera to the post-office and buying some horse-food but after that (and after cooking some meal) I will go to Baga IMMEDIATELY!!!

I need to emphasize (taka fram) that Baga acted today exemplary/ideal!!! She was so cool and so good to handle and also Peter (the owner of the arabs and the stable) likes her much! No fight came from Baga's side, she is fine if the other horses also act fine. I also had fear about her because the other horses are very big (about 1,67 m) but I think Baga is able to tackle this.

Mayday and May Day

About two weeks ago I told you what I was planning to do the next days. Now I want to tell you what actually happened ;-)

I really was taking some pictures at the breeding show on 19.04. and it worked fine. Only my camera decided to make trouble again and so I stopped without taking pictures of the riding-horses. But here you can see a picture of a mare in the confirmation assessment (byggingardómur). Her name is Dagrún von Hof Osterkamp and she is daughter of Leikur frá Lækjarbotnum and Fífa frá Herríðarhóli. Because of the trouble which my camera made I decided not to take more pictures of the breeding show on Friday and went to a village near my home to visit some iceland-horse-friends and to meet my new riding instructor. I hope we will do fine together but I am sure about this ;-)

Few days after the breeding show I was taking pictures at a firmakeppni on the same farm where the breeding-show was. It was great weather and I got my first sunburn. It was no problem to take about 1400 pictures and I was glad that my camera was fine again!!! See attached a picture of my friend Claudiii with her horse Órion frá Tréstöðum in skeið.

I didn't brought my car into the workshop because my mechanic was too busy :o(( Now we will try it again this Saturday. My poor car is running and running, I think I made about 10.000 km in 6 months... Here you can see a picture taken by me out of the window during driving on the highway very early in the morning. On Friday I drove to the North Sea to visit my parents who spent their holidays there. My father is unfortunately rather sick and the air is much more fresh on the North Sea so they decided to try these holidays to get him more healthy. On Sunday I drove back but made a stop at the farm where Baga lives because they had an event there. Unfortunately I have not many pictures because my camera decided after 60 pictures that she wants to die *grrrr*. Helvíti ljósmyndavél!!!!! I tried it again and again but she always had the same error... Now I have to buy a new one. Great that I am such a rich bitch that I can buy a new camera almost immediately for soooo less money (Attention: irony!!!). I am checking if a repair would be worth to be done but I am afraid that not. Why does she need to broke down one week before Baga is coming to me??? I want pictures of her with her new friends - 3 arabian horses!!! And pictures of Baga in a rape-seed-field....Baga in summer-coat...further Sigrún wants pictures of Baga and me :o)))

But now I stop grumbling because I want to sit outside in the sun and clean all my horse-stuff which I took with me on Sunday. In 5 days we will pick-up Baga and drive her home to me. But I am already getting nightmares because I know that she hates horsetrailers...please keep your fingers crossed that everything will work fine, that Baga will find friends in the 3 arabian horses and that no-body and no-horse will get hurt.

Hæ my friends, it's unbelievable but I am not able to post any comment in my blogg-page. It's the same problem like often with the log-in-page. I click on the link, it starts to work, the page is getting white and stays white for the next 5 or 50 minutes *argh*. Regarding the posted comments:
Sigrún: Takk fyrir að sjá eftir dagbókinni mín. Baga er fjórgangshestur en án tölt í augnablik. First we have to work on more important things before I start tölting Baga. If I am riding Baga again I will ask somebody to take pictures of us for you :o)))
Mona: Gratuliere zum zweiten "Ei"! Ich bin begeistert. Freut mich sehr für euch zwei. Ich wünsche Dir viel Spaß in Dänemark und Deutschland!!!

Like promised I will now write a little bit more about my visit at Baga. On Sunday I arrived there around 10 o'clock and Martina was still working (moka út skit) so I went to have a look at her newborn foal. I saw from afar that the foal was sleeping and wanted to rush to get pictures of it but suddenly I saw Baga - also sleeping on the ground. So I forgot the foal immediately and sneaked into her paddock to take pictures until she was sleeping. I thought she would stand up if she would notice that I am coming but she only blinked into the sun and decided to go on sleeping. I could take lots of pictures of her in this time but later I decided to try to walk beside her. Baga was totally not worried about me and short time ago I was sitting next to her - fondling her neck and mane. Her head went more and more heavier and suddenly her head lay on my leg. Then she awoke again and looked around herself as if she wanted to ask "Where am I, what happened?" She was sooo cute :o))))))
Unfortunately I have no picture of this moment because nobody was near us but the moment was too fine to be shared by others, so it's ok.

Of course I was also looking after the foal as I could break away from Baga. It is a great foal, very happy and full of joy and also curious. First I thought it would not come to me and only stay with its mother but I was wrong. Suddenly it stood in front of me and before I could take a picture it was running away again. But it repeated this many times again so of course I have some usable pictures for you :o)))

Now I will quit for today. Tommorrow I will try to take pictures in a breeding show and on Friday I will go on with this but maybe I will also meet some icelandic-horse-peoples near me to speak about trainers and so on. On Saturday I have to send my car to a workshop and on Sunday I will be at a Firmakeppni near my home to take pictures.

Hæ all! Sorry for the uneven blogging but like many of you know my computer had been broken for long time. Further I sometimes tried to log into the blogg-page but I could not reach it or if I could arrive the frontpage I could not write a new post ;-(

But now I seem to have luck and want to write you a little bit or more show you few pictures. I was not taking so very much horse-pictures in last time because I also needed to do a lot of extra-work and further I had not often enough horses near me who wanted to be photographed. At the moment I am more often taking pictures of soccer than of horses :o)))

On Saturday I visited a stable in my village because I want to get Baga to me now as soon as possible. I miss her much and I think we now need to start to know each other better and this will never work if she lives 150 km away from me and I am only visiting her 1 or 2 times a month. It surely will not be easy to make this step because I am so unkwown in having a horse with me but I think we will manage this.

As I was looking at this one stable in my village I used this chance and took some pictures of two arabian horses who are living there. I only took pictures during they have been ridden but the next time I want to put them into a rapeseed-field (in deutsch: Rapsfeld).

Now I have to go but I try to write very soon what I did on Sunday as I visited Baga.

Sorry girls, I didn't had the time to blogg the last weeks and sometimes I couldn't reach this page by myself because of any errors. Not many things happened but last weekend I was at a stallions-"show" (Hengstkörung) in Neumünster and took some pictures. Unfortunately there were only few icelandic horses. That's the winner of the icelandic stallions. His name is Harthaknut and he got 8.0 total.

On Sunday after the stallions-show I wanted to drive to Neumünster again but the weather was not good and we have been told by the radio that it's better not to drive norður. So I spent a nice day with Martina and took many horse pictures and we also made a sledge-tour (sleði) with the Shetland Pony Jenny ;-) It was very funny and I still felt my back many days after this fun....

Yesterday I went to the Schanzenhof again to visit Baga and to be at the christmas celebration. Further Martina took some pictures of Baga and me for my christmas-cards (I think the photos are for next year - this year I was too late with making cards). Baga was so cute like everytime - she was standing idle the whole time and was not really wondering what we are doing with her. Here you can see one picture - of course it's not the best but a nice one in my opnion! I will show you my favourite pictures of yesterday in 2 weeks :o))))

Later I took some pictures at the christmas-celebration and of course also of the quadrille! It was a nice celebration and I'm looking very forward to January (or hopefully earlier) when I can see Baga again.

I will show you some pictures of the Schanzenhof christmas celebration in the next days. At the moment I'm in a hurry because I have to go to work!

Today is my first working-day after some weeks free time so don't wonder if I don't blogg every day now (but as often as possible). But I also want to show you my foal SSSól frá Ægissíðu III today. She is a half-sister to my breeding-mare Sokkadís frá Asgarði. SSSól is wonderful and has the same character like Sokkadís.

Baga and "Mýrin"

Yesterday I went to Handeloh to visit my horse Baga and Martina on the farm Schanzenhof. It was planned that I ride Baga the first time again after January 2005 (as I went to Iceland for a half year - and after my arrival Baga was with a stallion - she didn't got a foal and so the trainer from the Schanzenhof have started some months ago to ride her again and she noticed that there is a lot to do because Baga didn't learned much with the first trainer or have forgotten much). Baga is born 2000, fourgaited and not very high tempered but she likes to run and is really not boring! At the moment she tries to do what she wants but she is friendly, not bucking and is not trying to get rid of her rider ;-) I had a little bit fear about riding her after this long time but Martina didn't allowed me not to ride Baga! Now I am happy that I did it and I hope the next time my brain knows that it is good to ride her!!! Further I urgently need to learn more and Baga, too. So I will try to get riding-lessons as often as possible now!!!

After riding Baga we went to the "Pietzmoor" a moorland/mýr to take some pictures because the weather was wonderful yesterday (around 15°C) and the sun was shining sometimes. The moor was great but sometimes a little bit creepy: the black water, the dead trees...suddenly the water starts to bubble... but I also found some signs and runes in the trees/wood. Can you also see it?
It was very nice to do this foto-trip with Martina because we both are often alone taking pictures but it makes so much fun if you are together ;-) After the moor we were checking one horse-paddock if everthing is ok and also took some pictures of the horses together. Don't ask why we had an umbrella and table cloth with us ;-)))))

Silfri back in the West!

It was clear that I will not sorrow long time after Iceland because I had/have enough to do so that I have no time to think about missing Iceland, my friends and my horses. The most important part was finding some owners for potential slaughter foals and I managed to sell 8 foals (of course I also took one of them ;-) I have time until Sunday morning to sell the last foals. Further I started to choose the pictures for my calendars. It took 3 days to know the pictures and to order some calendars through internet but now I am ready. Back in Germany

Now I am back in Germany again. Everything went fine. The flight was ok and after some hours I met Iris again in Frankfurt/Main. Then she feeded me and we talked a lot about our great journey! The next morning I started early (9:00) from Iris home and arrived at MY HOME (325 km away from Iris) around 12:00 o'clock. I love my car ;-)))))

My last day in Iceland was fine. I said goodbye to all my horses in Ásgarði, brushed the mane of Sokkadís, touched the nose of Skinfaxa!!!, fondled Frigg very much and touched her all over her body and I also managed to touch Stígur much more often then on all other days together!

Later we went to Reykjavík and bought a new camera for Ransý (Canon Powershot 700). Now she can take many many more pictures of all the horses from and in Ásgarði!!! We also went into Kringlan and ate some of our favourite things and Ransý bought a wonderful T-Shirt for me ;-))) In Kringlan they have decorated everything very nice for the christmas-time. I was a little bit confused because the christmas-time seems to start in Iceland at the 1st of November, but it's ok for me ;-))) Our shopping-centre in Laatzen is in Halloween-mood just now! The will start with christmas-things at beginning of December I think.

Then we drove to Grindavík to have our women-night with Valgerður. And it was great!!! Not that Hörður and Hebbi are women, but they were allowed to be there. Valgerður made a wonderful dinner and we looked after some music in tonlist.is and had a little bit Brennivín and Bailey's and loooots of cigarettes ;-))) It was a great evening and a wonderful last evening in Iceland!!! Hope to be back again very soon!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday Mona visited us in Ásgarður. It was very nice that we could see us again because we don't know us for a long time but still feel as if we are twins or soulmates. Ransý also likes Mona very much and so she named her new puppie after her. It was not so easy to take pictures of Mona because she is so happy and agile and....just a puppie ;-) So I hold her in the camera for the human Mona.

Soon I will go outside to see my horses again! Cleaning all the youngsters, brushing the mane of Sokkadís, trying to touch Skinfaxa only one time and trying to speak longer with Stígur, who is still very distrustful although he learned to accept my closeness.

Later we will drive to Reykjavík to buy some things and I want to have a look at Hestagallery. Then in the evening we will meet Valgerður in Hrauni and celebrate a great women-night with horse-videos and Gin/Brennivín ;-)

I am yet nervous because of the flight and if I will get the bus in Frankfurt/Hahn and if I can open my mobile phone to change the sim-cards and phone Iris who has to pick me up in Frankfurt/Main and if my pictures are still on my external harddisk and if I can start my car on Saturday and and and.....

Now I am going crazy ;-)

But I'm looking very forward to see my boyfriend Jens again!!!!!!! (and my "new" computer which Jens build for me out of two broken or old ones). Then I can go on with my work in Germany immediately and order the calendars next week. But previously the people wants to see the pictures which I will use in the calendars (I don't know the pictures yet by myself ;-)

Further I also need to sell some slaughter-foals until 12.11. At the moment I found new owners for 4 foals but I want some more.

So I will be back in my stressful life as quicklier as you can imagine. But it is ok because I choosed it ;-)

Yesterday I went into the stallions-stable again and cleaned the boxes and feeded the horses and the two sheeps and spent a little bit time with Stígur who is getting cooler every day. Then I let him and Biskup outside and I managed to touch Stígur a little bit on his nose ;-)
Later we went to Reykjavík to pick up Magga (foster-sister of Ransý) to drive with her to Katanesi in the Hvalfirði. It was the plan to get her horses Fönix and Pegasus from there to carry them to a trainer in Reykjavík...

...but Fönix and Pegasus decided not to go with Magga! So Magga took an old riding-school-mare and a three years old daughter of Indiáni frá Ásgarði and wanted to take them back home.

...but the car broke down few kilometers after Katanesi. Anything was broken so we lost the oil of the car. Luckily we managed to get the car (and the trailer with the two horses) back to Katanesi where Sveinn lives who is a genius in fixing cars and trucks and similar stuff. So he started to look under the Chevy and to fix anything...

...but suddenly the light was off and as we went outside of the garage we noticed that there was no light all over the Hvalfjörður! The whole electricity was broken down for many hours! So we went into the house and ate and talk in candlelight and phoned Hebbi to pick us up in Katanesi. After long time the electricity was back but it was too late for Sveinn to fix the Chevy so we put the horses in a paddock and drove back to Ásgarði with the second car ;-)

Today I was only working on the computer to create the page for the sale-foals: http://gaedingur.com/s-foals.html
After that I went out to have a look at Stígur who is standing in the stallions-stable at the moment to get used to people. He doesn't want to be touched but he is eating hey out of my hands ;-) So I was going a little bit on his nerves and tried to make his box clean.

Then we took Biskup and Stígur and went outside with them because I wanted to take some moving pictures. Stígur was first checking the ground and then he started to show us what he can. He looked nice. After about one hour we put both horses into the stable again and I feeded the horses and rabbits with hey. Then I spent long time with Stígur who got more and more relaxed with me on his side. He still don't wanted to be touched but after one or two hours he started to sleep in his box. Only few steps away from me. I think that's a good sign ;-) I will do the same tomorrow!

Now I am really confused because I often forget the date of the actual day. I always have to look into the details of my pictures to see which date we have ;-)
I am still (or again?) with sore throat but I am getting more and more bored about it. I feel good if I am taking painkillers, but I don't want to overdo it ... I only want to enjoy my holidays!!! Unfortunately my webmail-page is not working, so I can receive emails but not answer them ;-(
But my problems are nothing compared to the problems of many other creatures. Last weekend I met many wonderful foals which will end up at the slaughter only because they are... too many?! I think it don't need to be discussed if foals should be slaughtered or not, but like every year I try to help some of the foals to get a second chance. So today I only show you foals from few different farms which are available for about 25.000 - 40.000 ISK. You can contact me if you are interested in a foal. We went into the North on Tuesday the 24.10. to take pictures of the horses in Háleggsstöðum near Hofsós and to visit my Silfri. We started with a cloudy sky in Reykjavík and it was only luck that we managed to get the bus nearly right by time ;-) But we had very nice weather during our 5 hours drive! We only found more and more snow every meter of the road and it was more cold at every stop!!! In Varmahlíð we have been picked up by Jóel who brought us to Háleggsstaðir. Then we took a coffee and went outside very soon to get the horses. They were in the mountains and Jóel and his son were riding into the mountains to gather them home. Then we took many pictures of them into the paddock but it was snowing so strong and was getting dark so that we stopped soon.
Next morning it stopped snowing and we went outside again to take moving pictures of all horses there. I can not show all of the horses here because it would be too much for my blogpage but soon they will have their own website on: http://haleggsstadir.skinfaxa.net/ You can already found some old pictures of the horses there but soon it will be much more ;-)
Further now I am the happy new owner of Djörfung frá Háleggsstöðum. I just could not resist her! Later Jóel also got the three stallions Silfri, Draumur and Kalsi out of the mountains so that I also could take few pictures of my prince! Silfri's color is still a mystery for me. He is nearly white in the summer but now in the winter he looks like a really really light bay or yellow dun. The half of his head is grey but it always have been like this, otherwise I would believe that he is getting grey now. But I don't think so ;-) As well Silfri will ever stay one of the most beautiful horses all over the world. Never mind his color! He was nice and after some minutes he noticed that I am his owner and has been fondled by many hands! On Thursday we went back to Reykjavík and Ásgarði but it was raining all day ;-(

6. Day

Today we did some moving-pictures of the sales-horses and the foals after we cleaned our youngsters again in the stable. Unfortunately my camera broke down and it's possible that she is broken now! So please keep your fingers crossed that she will go on working tommorrow. I hope it was only to cold for her??? Otherwise I can not take any more pictures until the rest of my holidays ;-((((

I start with Askur frá Hraunsnefi; he is a 2 years old fivegaited stallion with nice temper. His father is: Stígandi frá Sauðárkróki and his mother: Aska frá Hraunsnefi (daughter of Frosti frá Heiði)

The next one is Iðunn frá Ásgarði; she is born in May this year, very curious and fivegaited. Her father is: Ögri frá Hóli v/Dalvík and her mother: Litla-Löpp frá Galtanesi

The last one is Þór frá Ásgarði; he is born in June this year, curious but shy and fivegaited. His father is also: Ögri frá Hóli v/Dalvík and his mother: Stórstjarna frá Ásgarði

Yesterday we have been at Grænhóll with Krissa and Gunnar. We saw many very beautiful stallions like Gári, Dalvar and Trúr frá Auðsholtshjáleigu:

After visiting the stallions and watching them some time, we went to a photo-safari with Krissa through the land of Grænhóll and Auðsholtshjáleigu. The landscape was so wonderful and we found many beautiful and very friendly horses there. It was a very big fun to drive around there and to look after the horses. I can only say: THANK YOU, KRISSA AND GUNNAR!!!

Valgerður from Hrauni picked us up on Friday to show us some things in Reykjanes area. First we went to the Reykjanesviti and the coast and climbed up on the hill where the old lighthouse was standing.

Reykjanes (The Steamy Peninsula) is the name of the southwestermost tip of the country. The area is and looks very volcanic and barren. The most conspicuous are the old shield volcanoes and the crater rows, which most probably were created in historic times. The area is scarred with fissures, there is much thermal activity and the nearby, powerful high temperature area has partially been harnessed to supply energy to a salt factory and a fish processing factory for drying fish heads. The largest, boiling mud pot is called Gunnuhver, named after a female ghost, who attacked people, shook houses and drove the sheep crazy.

Eventually a reverend, who was familiar with sorcery was asked to deal with the ghost. He managed to get rid of it in the mud pot. The many volcanoes of the area are rather low. The most conspicuous are the shield volcanoes Skalafell and Haleyjarbunga and the crater rows Stampar and Eldvorp. The crater rows are much younger than the shield volcanoes, probably created during historical times.

The first lighthouse of the country was built on top of a low mountain in the area in 1778. It collapsed 8 og 9 years later because of great earthquakes. The area was criss crossed with new fissures, the lighthouse keeper´s house was also damaged and other constructions suffered. The present lighthouse was built in 1907-08 about 78 m above sea level. A short distance off the coast a 52 m high rock pillar, called Karl (The Ogre), protrudes from the ocean and further out stands the 78 m high rocky island Eldey, The Fire Island, with the world's largest gannet colony (70.000 birds). In this area three islands have been created during submarine eruptions in historic times. They all disappeared soon after the eruptions stopped. The distance from the capital is about 56 km.

3. Day - the evening

In the evening we dewormed the six 1-year-old stallions and we cleaned them a little bit so that they are used to be handled in a stable by people. Further they should learn to be tethered up. Except for one guy all of them were very nice and liked to be touched and cleaned. We will go on with this procedere the next weeks and also always pick up the hooves because there will come somebody to make the hooves of some guys soon.

After this lesson we send the guys out and let them run a little bit. But they were very lazy ;-)

And wanted to eat...

But we made them run ;-)

Here is Glófaxi again. We now are thinking about giving two mares to him next summer. He is one year old and a son of Parker frá Sólheimum.

I could touch Frigg a little bit on her nose and Skinfaxa was nearer then ever but don't wanted to be touched ;-) Later we went to the beach and spend some time there smelling the great air and looking at the Sea.

Yesterday we went to Reykjavík to a veterinary because Busla (one of Ransý's dogs) is sick and she can not move one of her legs. So she is getting a laser-therapy now. After it we went into Kringlan because I wanted to buy a CD of Á móti sól but I didn't found what I was searching for ;-(
In the evening we were going on with deworming the mares and foals and everything went fine. The two foals which have been dewormed on Tuesday were very friendly and cool yesterday and they could be touched all over the body and Iðunn gave her hooves of her own volition as Eygló asked about it. Fengur was also very cool and ate hey out of my hands and I fondled him a long time. Here a picture of Fengur and me on Tuesday:

I also need to show Þór to you. He is such a cute foal but very very shy! I am very excited to see how he is acting today after his deworming yesterday...

First we wanted to drive into the South today but Ingvar is sick and Sæunn has not time today so we will stay in Ásgarði. That's also fine because I am planning to take moving-pictures of the horses here ;-)

Yesterday I went to Iris. It was the longest way I ever drove alone and then also sick. But everything worked fine and I arrived good. Further I visited Ronja in Alsfeld and looked at her horse Stígandi, which she exported in 2004. I never had seen him before but he is a very nice guy ;-) Stígandi is two years old now and the left horse on the picture.

Sickness

I really got sick yesterday. First I only had a little bit sore throat but few hours later I could not move any of my bones and the sore throat was getting so hard that I don't wanted to swallow anymore ;-( Of course I was also with big headache...

I could not sleep longer then 2 hours last night because I had nightmares and was in pain the whole time. At 4 o'clock I took a pill so that I could sleep until half past 5.

Now I will drive to my work and do my work as soon as possible that I can drive back home very early (I have to teach a trainee to do my work during the next weeks, so I can not stay at home).

Further there is much to do today because it's my last day at home. I will drive immediately into the South tommorrow after work.

My horses

Today I want to present my horses to you because I will surely often mention them in the next weeks and it will be easier for you if you still know who they are ;-)
In 2004 I exported my mare Baga frá Lágafelli to Germany. She lives in North Germany at the http://www.schanzenhof.com

That's Baga! She is the only horse what I have exported until now but I have some more horses in Iceland. My friend Ransý from http://www.asgardur.skinfaxa.net and http://www.123.is/asgardur is taking care about my horses in Iceland and I know that she is always doing her best for them. It doesn't matter if I have a stallion or mare or foal, she can manage everything. She has a stable for the stallions and for the foals who left their mothers at the end of the year, but all horses are living outside as often as possible.
In Ásgarði live my horses Stóri-Dímon (see above) and Sokkadís frá Ásgarði.

That's Sokkadís frá Ásgarði. She gave me a wonderful mare-foal from Glymur frá Innri-Skeljabrekku this year. The name of this foal - my first self breeded one - is Skinfaxa frá Ásgarði. She is movindóttskjótt (silver dapple pinto) and fivegaited and it seems as if she wants to be so famous as her father still is, when she is grown ;-)

I sold Skinfaxa few days after her birthday and the new owner gave her the name Vænting, so please be not confused if I call her Skinfaxa or Vænting in the next weeks. She is the same horse! Further I gave her the nickname "Chicken" because she has a chicken in her coat. Can you see it? I am very excited to see Skinfaxa soon because she is my first "baby".
Now I have to show you my "prince" Silfri frá Lágafelli. I bought him in 2003 as a foal because I felt in love with him. I was not very interested in his gaits or color, I only found him cute ;-) By now he is a three years old big guy and lives near Hofsós on the farm Háleggsstaðir http://www.haleggsstadir.skinfaxa.net where he had some mares this summer.

We will drive into the North next week to visit Silfri there and I am so excited to see how he developed himself since last year. This year Silfri have been a father the first time in his life. Last year he had a "date" with Pamela frá Indriðastöðum and on 20.08.2006 she gave birth to a beautiful son who is now named Pálmi frá Höfnum. Pálmi is yet sold and will exported to the United States if he is old enough. Here you can see Pálmi:

The last horse which have to be mentioned is Tappi frá Lágafelli. I don't have him yet but I am looking very forward to see him soon. He is a half-brother of Silfri, born rauðblesóttur (chestnut with blaze) and is getting grey now. You can see him here:

Now you know the most of my reasons why I have to spend my holiday-time in Iceland and there are many more those reasons ;-))))

This is the beginning of my Iceland-diary!

I'm looking very forward to see my horses in Iceland again in 5 days!!!

That's Stóri-Dímon frá Markaskarði. He is one year old and a Palomino Pinto and I have never seen him before personally.
